Too bad, I've liked everything else I've tried. The smoke is definitely strong and a strong tea or high quality highland single malt would go hand in hand with this. It is more comparable to a fruitier Irish Flake than it's Lakeland brothers and sisters. I agree with a number of the reviews, the aroma when opening the tin is pleasant, the first half of the bowl is very pleasant..a little strong for me since I prefer a milder smokebut I find it does tend to loose its flavour half way through. If you're into strong, dark flakes -- especially of the Lakeland variety -- try it; if you're not, approach with caution. It stays good to the very last morsel. I have the best results when I smoke this outdoors. It does need relights but the slow burn is cool and flavorful, the relights simply add a burst of flavor. So, I snapped some up, and here's how I find it: Removal of the lid reveals some thin, almost black flakes. Very moist out of the tin, you may prefer a little dry time, although I did not do that. The "long used essence" is fairly subtle, at least for Lakeland flakes, and won't leave your fingers smelling like you just put on some cheap aftershave. Gretchen doesn't run away when I smoke it. It does have a considerable nicotine content. I found this flake to be dark and moist, and quite pungent in the tin, much like 1792 and Full Virginia Flake. The scent is heavenly: coumarin jumps off the top, with other medicinal aromatic scents. The flavor is complex: chocolate, matured virginia tobacco, medicine.and lot more. They compliment and at times overtake the Virginias a little. Flavoring is attractive: not as sweet and tonquin dominated as 1792, but more "fresh" and "cool". I can only fill small bowls with basically broken flake at best. It can also get temperamental if rushed and since I usually feel the same way, no problems there. It can get bitter in the last 3rd and I don't usually get good DGT results with this blend. This bowl was much better than the first.
